Summer Club 2010

Another fantastic holiday club was held in July, with twenty leaders including, for the first time, Junior leaders Amy, Harriet and Rebecca. Due to building works we had to relocate away from the school and into the Standering Hall next to the church. This meant we had to work harder to bring children from Flaxley Road, providing a 'walking bus'.

The club had a Café Church theme, set in an imaginary fish and chip restaurant. Peter (from the Bible) intro- duced us to a different character from the book of Acts each day; James, Priscilla, John, Dorcas and Cornelius (can you remember their stor-ies?), which helped us understand an aspect of what Jesus wants for his family, the Church.

Each day we watched the antics of Salt and Vinegar, the trainee chefs, as they made a mess of carrying out the instructions of the chef, Mr Tagliatelle.

Dave and Denise Robinson got involved for the first time. Dave writes, "Rocky's Plaice was full of fun, interactive, constantly on the go, with not a moment to stand still; the Children were thoroughly engaged and enjoyed themselves; there was a good balance of fun and slapstick, with more serious stories to commun-icate the Good News."

"Denise and I made new friends in St James, and our girls loved it! - there was a nice balance of church and non-church children. The shared meal and chips with the families was a great way of ending it too. I just think it was brilliant and really enjoy-able - we'll definitely be involved again next year!"

All this, with wonderful crafts, games, songs, prayers, Bible booklets and gifts to take home, they had a memorable time.

Remember the children and their families in your prayers - ask God to continue to shine in their lives.

Numbers were down on previous years, though we still had over thirty children daily - please pray that there would be no difficulties in getting back into Selby CP School in 2011.
